Sophie Clarke, Mezzo Soprano: Using my voice to adapt to different styles and genres.
Sophie Clarke is a Mezzo-Soprano and Actor from Liverpool, UK. She has been awarded the Hargreaves and Ball Scholarship to study for a Masters of Music in Classical Singing and Opera at The Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Yvonne Howard and Louise Winter. She is the first student at the RNCM to be sponsored by the international Gilbert and Sullivan Society and she is also kindly sponsored by Mr Peter Snook.
Sophie is the RNCM Song Cycle Competition Winner 2023 and the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition Winner 2022, for which she was subsequently invited to perform as part of the London Song Festival. Recent highlights include performing the role of the 'Witch' in Sondheim's 'Into The Woods' for the RNCM 50 Year Anniversary 2023, being the Alto Soloist in Handel’s 'Messiah' at Nottingham’s Albert Hall and performing as the Mezzo-Soprano Soloist in Bernstein’s 'Mass' firstly at The Royal Festival Hall in London, conducted by Marin Alsop, and then at Bridgewater Hall for the Manchester Premiere, conducted by Clark Rundell. In June of 2023, Sophie was delighted to make her Wigmore Hall debut singing works by composer Larry Goves to celebrate the RNCM 50 Year Anniversary and for the last four months she has also been travelling around the UK as a Soloist for London Concertante Orchestra's 'West End Musicals' UK Tour.
Before this, Sophie filmed her solo performance for BBC One’s television series 'All Together Now!' sharing classical music with a wider audience and for Christmas 2022 she performed 'Walking In The Air' with Violinist Esther Abrami for 'Christmas Carols on ITV' which was hosted by Jane McDonald. Earlier in 2022, Sophie returned from Bergen, Norway after singing in the World Premier of Ryan Wigglesworth's 'Magnificat' at the Grieghallen with the Bergen Filharmoniske Kor, Edvard Grieg Kor and the Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester conducted by Edward Gardner.
