Maddalena Del Gobbo - Baroque music frees the spirit when you are playing ornamentation.
Maddalena Del Gobbo's dedication and talent have distinguished her in the classical music world. She is the only Deutsche Grammophon artist specializing in the viola da gamba.
Born in Italy, Maddalena Del Gobbo demonstrated an extraordinary musical talent from an early age. She began studying piano at the age of four and soon expanded her repertoire to include the cello and singing. Her exceptional abilities led her to Vienna at the age of thirteen, where she continued her cello studies at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität.
Maddalena Del Gobbo first encountered the viola da gamba during an unplanned visit to a record shop in the heart of Vienna. The enchanting sound of the instrument captivated her, leaving an indelible mark on her memory. Despite this profound experience, Maddalena continued her studies as a cellist, eventually earning a Master of Arts degree and performing as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous prestigious concert halls. Throughout this period, she nurtured a secret passion for the viola da gamba, honing her skills in private. One day, she made a pivotal decision to shift her focus entirely to the viola da gamba, dedicating her life to the art of Baroque music.
Her album "Maddalena and the Prince" has been met with critical acclaim, earning the Supersonic award from Pizzicato magazine, CD of the month in Fono Forum, and CD of the week on ZDF. It has also received numerous five-star reviews, including those from BBC Music and Stereo Magazine, solidifying her reputation as a leading artist in Baroque music.
